9.22.24 Red-shouldered hawk

I was lucky enough to capture some photos of this red-shouldered hawk in my neighborhood this week. I have watched this hawk many days but never have my camera ready. I saw it the other day while walking my son home from school and so I told him to pick up the pace so I could get home and get my camera! Such a gorgeous raptor. Beyond their obvious beauty, what I find so fascinating is their incredible vision. It is said that a hawk can see a mouse a half a mile away!!! Their eyesight is 8x that of a human!! What?!! I also love that they are monogamous and remain with the same partner for their lifetime. They are absolutely incredible beings and I could watch them all day.
